By twenty-seven I was making more money than anyone in my family ever had in a year — and slowly going numb in a sea of grey cubicles at IBM, promoted to the one that backed up to a window I’d stare out of all day. So I leapt. Over two decades I tried my hand at twenty-some trades and businesses across four continents — and the punchline of my life so far is that I made more money than I had in any of them while lying naked in a hammock on a remote Greek beach, a week of snorkeling crystalline water, the work arriving precisely because I’d finally gotten out of its way. I’ve swum with and “spoken” to dolphins, and walked multi-year pilgrimages to 500 ancient sites across the Aegean and Mediterranean — some five thousand years old — doing my own archaeology of story, meaning, and what it is to be fully alive. What all of it taught me: you’re not here to grind your soul down to make a living. You’re here to make your living being it.

I used to feel like a fish trying to survive in a desert. I was a blackout drunk brokering $350-million real-estate deals in a city I hated, slowly dying inside — terrified that my joy, my creativity, my voice had no value in the marketplace. The first time I set foot in Florence at eighteen, I knew I didn’t belong in the United States; it took me years — three and four jobs at a time, a dancer and a terrified singer — to find my way out. Then my soul signal grew too loud to ignore. I left the matrix, took the crazy leap, and followed my intuition around the world. Now I live the life I once only longed for: location-independent, raising my daughters between Greece, Thailand, France, and Albania, swimming in the Mediterranean, making art and music, and guiding world-changers across their own chasm of fear — through the body, not around it. Because your body isn’t the enemy; it’s a messenger. Whatever your soul dreams of is what you’re here for — your dreams are your destiny, future memories. Do the scary thing. Do the fun thing.
